Re: Happy St George's Day
Your patron saint is important, and the day that celebrates or commemorates this is equally important, particularly if you are a Christian, but also important if you are not. Its part of your identity and ties you to your ancestry, no matter how complex that is.

St George is a fine saint, nothing to be ashamed of, but its an imposed patron. At the time Scotchland, Wales and Ireland had their patron saints, we had St Edmund and then St Edmund and Edward the Confessor, both more worthy patron saints for the English.

As a catholic, I like the fact that Poland has 5 patron saints, with the most revered being the Immaculate Mother, who ties together all Christians.

Poland does not worship St Jakub of Onions, but they do have a very important Saint Casimir. Who also has an interesting story, not too dissimilar from St Chad.

They maybe knuckleheads.but watching the footage the Police obviously have double standards, for this lot its steam in and get the horses out to charge the crowd,

the Palestinian lovers will be no doubt out on the weekend, but they get a free pass, and a stand and watch policy from the same Police force.

UK, Dogs etc

Re: Happy St George's Day
I have always been conflicted by English Nationlism as opposed to patriotism.
I am half Welsh, quarter French with the rest being a mixture od English and Scottish and, according to ancestry, 4% Bantu DNA yet grew up here so I.m a Londoner at heart and comfotably pass the Tebbit test.
It makes me a bit queasy when the pissed up, flag waving goons take up the cause. I hope the St George's day fight with the police does not become a fixture as it should be a celebration..

St. George, patron saint of….

agricultural workers, farmers, field workers; soldiers; archers; armourers; equestrians, cavalry, saddle makers; chivalry; peacekeeping missions; skin diseases, lepers and leprosy, syphilis; sheep, shepherds, scouting, England

…. but interestingly not damsels in distress on account of dragons.

Good to see the pathetic Met's case against Tommy Robinson collapse, should never have got anywhere near a courtroom.

Yeah, and Exeter, I hope

It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven
Upon the place beneath. It is twice blest;
It blesseth him that gives and him that takes”

Not sure that'll be a vote winner with all those refugees.

Every day is a bank holiday for them.

They keep lawyers and hoteliers and politicians and boat makers and civil servants and interpreters and smugglers and newspapers or media all in business or at least partly enable their jobs.

I would say a national day would in general be for and about the nation's people as an entire group and their common joy of the nation so in this case Jezza is talking bollocks and should be ashamed of himself.
